London 2020

The twelfth annual Calgary Energy Roundtable will take place in November 2020. Further information will be available early in the New Year.

London 2019

The eleventh annual Canada-UK Energy Summit, organized by The Energy Roundtable, took place on Tuesday, November 26th at Canada House. The event gathered business and government leaders from Canadian, UK and global energy sectors to discuss The Future of Energy.

The UK and Canada are committed to meeting the challenges presented by climate change and a rapidly changing economy that increasingly has information technology at its core. The task at hand requires significant changes to how we create and consume energy, including to meet ambitious targets such as getting to net zero carbon emissions by 2050.

Transition to a low-carbon, low-pollution and resource-efficient economy is a priority for both the Canada and UK governments. Comprising both government officials and representatives from the private sector, partnerships have been established between the UK and Canada to advance clean innovation and low carbon energy. By creating the right conditions – through policy, regulation, and funding – both governments are working to foster R&D and encourage investment in new technologies that are entering the market every day.

The private sector play a central role in the commercialization and cost-effectiveness of clean energy breakthroughs. Entrepreneurs, investors, and businesses drive innovation from the laboratory into the marketplace. Capital flows are increasingly moving into cleaner energy alternatives as the impacts of climate change, and the corresponding need to act, become more evident.

2019 Canada UK Energy Summit

The Canada UK Energy Summit exists to expand ties between the energy sectors in Canada and the UK.  This year’s event addressed the following topics:

  • Decarbonisation in the oil and gas sector
  • Electrification of energy systems
  • The role of nuclear power generation

The Summit offers an opportunity to gain first-hand knowledge and build relationships that support cross-border trade, investment, and innovation.
